Zero Balance is a darkly comic publication meant for no one. If it has an audience, they should be ashamed of themselves. No decent respectable person should be caught dead reading it. We are the journal of record for the future that never happened and the past that never existed.

This publication will unfortunately feature writing, art, music, and video about this decaying capitalist dungheap passing for empire these days. It will not be un-American, whatever passes for “America” these days, but rather the filthy mirror of America. We’re Suburban Uncle Sam in Crocs and dirty sweatpants, paralyzed with decision about which candy bar to buy out of the vending machine. Zero Balance will be celebratory in its low-brow and dumb behavior; we will revel in glamorous, unapologetic trashiness.

That is our red meat, our mother’s milk: the big lie that we are all healthier, happier, more productive in this great and prosperous society. The lie that we aren’t, in fact, a deeply defeated and broken people resigned to our microwaveable, low sodium fates.

America does not need another late night comedy monologue from a millionaire, who then ruffles the hair of a nascent fascist like a beloved nephew. It needs anti-art. It needs implosion. It needs a mirror to show us what we are: a pack of half-starved jackals fighting over the last antelope corpse. We will expose, disrupt and tear down not to laugh at nothing, but to make you, dear reader, stop laughing.

We will produce wildly and unapologetically in the hopes of achieving this goal. There are no format or submission guidelines, only that work must feel dangerous, like an artist would get punched in the face for doing it. Anything that would let you keep your day job is worthless. Anything else is worthless.

The world is unbalanced. Its numerator: zero.

Everything is not going to be okay.
